Assam Rifles Apprehends Man With Contraband Drugs Worth INR 76 Lakhs.

On Friday, the Assam Rifles apprehended a man from Haelenphai village in Manipur with 380 grams of brown sugar in his possession. The amount of the contraband drug recovered notches up a market value to around Rs. 76 lakhs. This was informed by a senior officer of Assam Rifles.

The Inspector-General of Assam Rifles said in an official release, “Based on specific input about movement of narcotics across the India-Myanmar Border (IMB), a team of Moreh Battalion in general area Haelenphai observed movement of a suspected individual. The Individual was challenged for frisking. On seeing the Security Forces, he tried to escape, however, was apprehended by the troops.” reported ANI.

The official release by Assam Rifles further revealed that the man was asked to transport the drugs to Moreh and further beyond Khudengthabi bypassing the check posts en route by a Burmese dealer.

The apprehended culprit has already been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for further investigation. Further legal action is yet to be initiated.
