Assam Jatiya Parishad organised anti-CAA protests in Silchar on Saturday. Assam Jatiya Parishad is a new party which has been formed under the direct influence of All Assam Students Union (AASU). AASU, which has very little hold over the Barak Valley, is now targetting the tribal communities and Muslims in Barak against in order to protest against the CAA bill.
AJP protested on Saturday (12 December 2020) in front of the Khudiram Bose statue in Silchar. The protest continued for 2 hours and there slogans against CAA bill were raised by the protestors. The Cachar Committee convenor of the AJP, Lakhikanta Singha said that if the government tries to impose CAA in Assam, then that will be injustice to the local population. Lakhikanta said that the AJP will not tolerate such an injustice. Jatiya Parishad shall continue its protest against the CAA bill, said the Lakhikanta.
Lakhikanta further said that, if their demands are not taken into serious consideration, then the people of the state will answer this in the next election. The protest, by the Cachar committee of Assam Jatiya Parishad, began at 11.30 A.M and finally ended at around 1.30 P.M.
Assam Jatiya Parishad has already threatened that they shall carry out massive protests all over the state against the CAA. AJP has threatened to continue with their protests, until and unless the government rolls back the CAA. The anti-CAA protestors also paid homage to the individuals who got killed in anti-CAA protests last year, in Assam.
