US President Joe Biden on 30 April 2021 imposed new travel restrictions on India in light of the worsening state of affairs, barring most non-US citizens from entering the country.
The new restrictions will be effective from May 4, and is reportedly not going to apply to those who have a scheduled flight for the US before the cut-off time.
The travel ban has been imposed on the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), White House secretary Jen Psaki said.
The Indian Embassy in Washington did not immediately comment on the decision which came about quickly and suddenly.
However, the restrictions will not apply to US citizens, informed an official of Biden administration. No restrictions will be imposed on lawful permanent residents and other people with exemptions travelling from India to the US.
