Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla flew to Britain just before the country banned traveller’s from India. He said that he plans an extended stay because of the threats he is receiving from powerful people such as chief ministers and other corporate leaders of India.
The CEO has alleged being coming under immense pressure over the supply of the Covishield vaccine.
Covishield manufactured by the Serum Institute of India is among the two vaccines that are currently being used in mass inoculation drive in the nation.
Referring to calls he have been receiving, Poonawalla stated, “Threats is merely an understatement. The aggression and expectation level is unprecedented. Everyone feels that they should be vaccinated. They can’t understand why anyone else to get vaccinated before them.”
Poonawalla indicated that his move to London is also partially motivated by business plans to expand vaccine manufacturing to countries outside India.
