The Health Department has conducted three exams for third grade jobs in Para-medical field. The exams were held in December 2020 and January 2021. Surprisingly, the exams did not receive a single centre or zone in Barak Valley. All the exam zones were present in Brahmaputra Valley.
Around 40 to 50 thousand candidates from Barak Valley had to move towards the Brahmaputra Valley in order to appear in the exam. Many could not even sit in the exam because they were not able to manage their food and lodging in the Brahmaputra Valley. Also, many candidates were unable to attend the exam because they failed to book their train tickets in advance, due to the Corona situation.
According to some complaints, each of the candidates had to spend Rs. 10000 to Rs. 12000 on their food and lodging in the Brahmaputra Valley just to attend their exams. As their parents had to accompany them to Brahmaputra Valley, the total amount spent by each family stands at 25 thousand, approx.
Himanta Biswa Sharma came and assured the people of Barak Valley back in 2016 that the BJP would not discriminate with the people of the valley. He further assured back then that the third and fourth grade jobs of the Health Department would be filled up using the educated candidates from Barak Valley. The assurance was highly popularised and even votes were demanded based on it. However, the recruitment process displays some contrasting realities.
